Inspiring Values-Based Leadership
On April 23rd, Harry Kraemer, former Baxter CEO and professor at Northwestern's Kellogg School of Management was the keynote speaker at ECCS' 14th Annual Conference, the premiere event in our Capacity Building Program. Mr. Kraemer challenged nonprofit board members and key staff across northern Illinois to inspire excellence in pursuit of their mission by harnessing the power of personal and organizational values.
"My hope," said Mr. Kraemer, former Baxter CEO and professor at Northwestern's Kellogg School of Management, "is to inspire current leaders and the next generation of individuals who will follow them; leaders who are values-based and hold true to these values to make a difference in their lives, their organizations, and the world - leaders who do the right thing."

Leaders from 13 nonprofit organizations across the Diocese participating in our current Governance Roundtable - Nurturing Your High Functioning Nonprofit Board - are learning how board members and staff use the power of shared values to pursue their mission with excellence.

Walking Alongside Agencies
"Episcopal Charities has been there every step of the way. As we continue to grow into a dynamic agency, I know we couldn't have done it without the encouragement and practical help they provided, just when it was needed most."
Joanne Bratta, Executive Director , St. Mary's Services
Building on their rich heritage of creating families through adoption, today St. Mary's Services (Palatine, Illinois) supports hundreds of teens facing the challenges of unplanned pregnancies. Working in and through public school districts, hospitals, community centers, and other community-based institutions, St. Mary's offers help - and hope - to young clients and their families through programs and services delivered by a professional, caring staff of counselors.
"Our Capacity Building Program works best," says Otto Reinisch, Director of Capacity Building, "when it builds on the visionary leadership and mission-based passion that already was present at St. Mary's. We bring the encouragement and the resources...but as it is happening at St. Mary's, they bring the 'magic.'
